Verbum Domini: The Word of God in the Life and Mission of the Church - CBAP 12th Annual Convention

Calling all members, associates, and observers!

The 12th CBAP annual convention will be held on July 15-17, 2011 at the Betania Retreat House, Tagaytay City.

The theme of our convention will focus on Verbum Domini, the post-synodal apostolic exortation of Benedict XVI. To download the document, please click here.

Two of our members who were delegates to the Synod on the Word of God in 2009 will be our major speakers:

1. Bishop Pablo David, DD (SThD, Catholic University of Louvain) will discuss the relationship between Exegesis and Theology in the Verbum Domini;

2. Bishop Broderick Pabillo, DD (SSL, Biblicum, Rome) will elaborate the pastoral implications of the document.

Workshop presentors will include:
Mark David Walsh (from Australia) - on Christian and Jewish Reading of Bible
Fr. Cielo Almazan, OFM
Fr. Clarence Marquez, OP on the synagogue preachingi in Luke-Acts
Sr. Nicet Vargas, OSA on her new book on the introduction to the Johannine literature
Dr. Bobby Gueverra (Ateneo de Manila) on the book of the prophet Isaiah

 CBAP 11th annual convention
It was conducted together with the Loyola School of Theology on July 15-17, 2010. The theme was “DOING BIBLICAL STUDIES IN EAST ASIAN CONTEXTS.”

Major speakers were:
Sr. Rekka Chennattu, R.A of the Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth, Pontifical Institute of Philosophy and Religion (India): “Reading the Bible in the Asian Context;” and

Gina Hens-Piazza of Jesuit School of Theology at Santa Clara University (USA): “Biblical Studies as Contextual Studies
Supporting Caste or Supporting Cast: Reading Minor Biblical Characters.”

There were 60 CBAP members, associates and observers who attended and joined with the invited participants of LST. We had a friendly and interesting sharing of experiences in the field of biblical studies with the participants coming from other parts of East Asia (Mainland China, Thailand, Vietnam, Australia, India and Indonesia).
